He is recognized in the realms of hip hop music, spoken word performance, theater and literature. He's featured on HBO's Def Poetry, The Discovery Channel and will appear on the 2011-2012 season of Sesame Street. These Are The Breaks, his debut collection of essays, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. A highly sought artist-educator, Idris lectures at colleges, K-12 schools, and arts venues across the nation.
